Understanding and Seeing the Big Picture

I know that you have heard the phrase "The Right Place at the Right Time" so many times that it really doesn't mean anything anymore. It has been used as a catch phrase in just about every opportunity on the market to help generate faster sales and to kick off momentum. The problem though is that a large majority of these companies end up going out of business in less then 2 years. So obviously it wasn't the right place or the right time for them.

Now look at Social Networking as a whole. The one we are most familiar with is MySpace. MySpace was launched in August of 2003. Less then 2 short years later the company was purchased by Rupert Murdoch in July of 2005 for $580 Million. MySpace hit its 100 Millionth member on August 6th 2006 and is currently bringing on over 250,000 new user accounts daily.

Let's look at Facebook. Facebook was started on February 4th 2004. On October 24, 2007 Microsoft purchased 1.6% of Facebooks monthly revenue for $246 Million. Then on November 30, 2007 a Billionaire from Hong Kong named Li Ka-shing invested another $60 Million. Currently Facebook's internal valuation from Peter Theil, co-founder of PayPal, is around $8 Billion. Facebook currently has well over 100 Million accounts.

How about Bebo. BeBo was founded in January of 2005 and purchased by AOL on March 13, 2008 for $850 Million. The company currently is only in its 3rd full year of operation.

Last but not least there's Youtube. YouTube was created in February 2005 and was acquired by Google for $1.65 Billion in Google Stock in November of 2006. Only 21 months old.

Right now you can't turn on CNN, MSNBC, or any other major news channel without hearing something about Social Networking.
